The road not taken by Robert frost
First stanza
- The speaker is at a fork in the woods
- "Yellow wood" – the leaves are yellow it is probably fall
- "diverged" – to diverge means to split. There is a fork in the woods.
- "I could not travel both" – the speaker wants to walk on both roads at once but understands that it's impossible.
- He needs to choose one road, so he looks as far as possible until he can't see anymore because the road bends "it bent in the undergrowth".
- Where is the traveler as he starts his story? Setting – where? In the woods. when? In the fall.
- What regret does the speaker express at this point? That he cant travel both roads
- What prevents the traveler from seeing further in the road? That the road bends
Second stanza
- After looking at one road, the traveler decides to take "the other road"
- Fair = attractive pretty
- He chooses the second road because fewer people walked there.
